Abuja - Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the arrest of a top military official in connection with the ongoing investigations into an arms scandal in the country, Punch has reported.

Air Vice Marshal RA Ojuawo, serving senior officer at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), was allegedly arrested on his way out of the country to attend a meeting in Germany.

The arrest was the latest in a string conducted by the anti-graft agency, which is currently staging a probe into arms fraud amounting to $2.1bn.

According to local publication Pulse, Ojuawo was the Director of Operations during Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh's reign as Chief of Air Staff at NAF.

Badeh, who is currently being detained under EFCC custody, was allegedly interrogated by the agency on Monday regarding accounts amounting to $930 550 690 that were awarded during his tenure as Chief of Air Staff.

A previous News24 report revealed that the contracts were believed to be part of the arms scandal, popularly referred to as #DasukiGate, due to former National Security Advisor Sambo Dasuki's involvement.

Dasuki, also believed to be in EFCC custody, was recently arraigned before a court on 19 counts of diversion of funds amounting to N32bn.

The incident marks the latest in an ongoing fight against corruption and fraud, with President Muhammadu Buhari remaining steadfast in his pursuit of a corruption-free country.
