Lusaka - Police in Zambia have issued fresh summons to The Post newspaper's key staff over alleged defamation of President Edgar Lungu.

According to The Postmanaging editor Joan Chirwa-Ngoma, news and deputy managing editor Joseph Mwenda, along with reporter Mukosha Funga and 4th Revolution Party leader Eric Chanda were summoned for an interview on Tuesday at the Lusaka Central Police Station.

This came after the publication published an article on May 9, 2015 showing Lungu playing pool just a few months after his inauguration. The article quoted Chanda as implying that Lungu was not a serious leader as his first order of business as president was to "socialise" and "play pool".

Chanda who also acts as the Secretary General for Orange Alliance was formally arrested on March 21 this year for his connection to the 2015 article.

Lusaka Times said Chanda was the latest member of the opposition to be arrested under Lungu’s administration shortly after United Party for National Development (UPND) President, Geoffrey Mwamba.

Observers have described the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) party as having a growing intolerance ahead of the August 11 elections.
