Beer consumption in Zimbabwe is fast becoming a key reflector of the inequality gap within the country, at least according to numbers from beverage maker Delta.

Cape Town – African leaders have reportedly resolved not to attend the European Union-AU summit scheduled for Brussels in April if Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is not invited.

According to the Herald, Zambian Foreign Minister Wylbur Simuusa said the African Union had agreed at the recently ended summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, that African leaders had resolved to move as a united front on issues of governance and international policy.

Simuusa said the time had come for Africa to speak with one voice.

Zimbabwean Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi also confirmed the development saying he was confident the EU would allow Mugabe to attend the summit.

Mugabe was last week appointed first deputy chair of the AU executive council, a position that rendered futile a decision by the European Union not to invite him to the summit.

Newszimbabwe.com said previous EU-AU summits have been rocked by controversy over Mugabe who is banned from travelling to Europe as part of the enforcement of sanctions it imposed on Zimbabwe.

The EU-Africa Summit is expected to focus on strategic priorities under the Joint Africa-EU Strategy.

The strategy seeks to enhance political co-operation and partnerships at all levels.
