Cape Town - A Zimbabwean gay rights association claims that its members are being discriminated against when accessing treatment for HIV and Aids, according to a newzimbabwe.com report.

Gays and Lesbians Association of Zimbabwe (GALZ) programmes manager Samuel Matsauke said the problem was prevalent in the country's remote, rural areas.

Matsauke said gays experienced discrimination on a daily basis, but did not report it as they knew they would never get assistance.

A ministry of health official, however, said it was not government policy to discriminate against patients.

President Robert Mugabe has openly castigated homosexuality, describing same-sex marriage as a "filthy, filthy, filthy disease".

The veteran leader also recently threatened to jail anyone involved in homosexual acts.
