Three years after the formation of Zimbabwe’s unity government, analysts say the coalition has remained dysfunctional as parties continue to differ on reforms and security forces.

A dusty road leads to the village of Wedza, where veterans of Zimbabwe's liberation war eke out a meagre living on their farm cooperative, which after a promising start now brings only despair.

Pretoria - President Kgalema Motlanthe fully supports Thabo Mbeki's role as SADC mediator in the Zimbabwean dialogue, he said in a statement on Thursday.

"Our government has full confidence in Mr Mbeki's ability to build on the historic successes already made in the power sharing negotiations under his mediation.

"Mr Mbeki's facilitation efforts in Zimbabwe have proven his dispassionate vision for a lasting political solution to the challenges facing Zimbabwe," Motlanthe said.

He had informed SADC's executive secretary Dr Tomaz Augusto of the government's support.
