Pro-democracy activists in Zimbabwe are worried that a period of gross human rights abuses may be returning to the southern African nation after a prominent social rights activist was abducted by unknown assailants this week and left for dead in Harare.

Cape Town – At least 12 people, mostly Zimbabweans, are feared dead following a horrific bus accident that occurred in Zambia on Sunday, reports say.

Pictures of the accident were circulating on social media.

The state-owned newspaper The Herald said on Monday that eight people died on the spot, while 53 others were seriously injured.

The accident occurred when a Harare-bound King Lion bus veered off the road and overturned in Kafue, Zambia.

The bus owner said the driver lost control after a tyre burst, a News Day report said.

The injured were rushed to Kafue Hospital while others were transferred to UTC Hospital in Lusaka.
