Mugabe, Tsvangirai face-off

2012-02-06 12:52

Cape Town – Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai are expected to hold an explosive meeting amid reports the premier is seething with anger over leakages of confidential communication between them, News Day reported on Monday.

This, according to the report, follows the leakage and subsequent publication of a confidential letter by Tsvangirai to President Mugabe and Deputy Prime Minister Arthur Mutambara.

The letter was published by the State-controlled Sunday Mail and other publications like the Zimbabwe Mail.

The report said the meeting will be the first between the two protagonists this year, and is expected to deal with the leakages of confidential exchanges between the inclusive government principals, appointments of service chiefs, and reforming the security sector, among other contentious issues.

President Mugabe last week reportedly cancelled the National Security Council meeting after Tsvangirai did not turn up, protesting the composition of attendees.

Who cares. Not one of them are concerned enough, or good enough to run the country.

Frankly I believe that the MDC can run the country.

Agree with you, neither Mugabe nor Tsvangirai are fit to rule. Sadly Zimbabweans made the mistake of thinking the latter could!

I am tired of hearing about Tsvangirai "seething" about this and holding "explosive" meeting with Mugabe about that and everything nothing comes out of it all! Zimbabweans have made some monumental mistakes in the last 30 years electing Mugabe in 1980 and Tsvangirai in 2008 are the biggest. The latter is the worst of the two for three reasons: 1) After making the first mistake of electing Mugabe, Zimbabweans should have been more careful who they voted for. 2) It is Tsvangirai’s incompetency that has kept Mugabe in power for these last ten years. Mugabe was finished after the sham 2008 elections and it was Tsvangirai who got him off the hook by signing the one-sided power sharing agreement. 3) Even if Mugabe was to give up power after the next elections, Tsvangirai is too weak to stop the country slipping into lawlessness or worse. After thirty years of this ruthless Zanu PF dictatorship; thousands of Zimbabweans have gained financially from the system and, worse still, many of them have the blood of innocent people. They have an invested interest in maintaining the status quo and they are armed to the teeth. Tsvangirai would only to keen to appease them!
