Commission to probe factions diving Mugabe’s Zanu-PF

Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe will set up a commission to probe allegations of factionalism threatening to divide his Zanu-PF party ahead of an elective congress in December, the party spokesperson says.

Cape Town – Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe has reportedly launched a lawsuit to claim ownership of a Hong Kong luxury home that was used by his daughter, Bona, while she studied in that country.

According to South China Morning Post, the luxury home was reportedly bought by a middleman before Bona started university studies in Hong Kong.

A News Day report said when the deal was revealed in 2009, Mugabe denied owning the property, insisting he had only rented the home for use by Bona while she completed her studies.

Mugabe was quoted then as saying he just wanted accommodation for his daughter and her friends and had nothing to do with the property. He even asked “what do I do with a house in Hong Kong really?”

The veteran leader insisted he did not own any other properties outside of Zimbabwe, News Day said.

However, in a High Court writ, the government, led by Mugabe, is allegedly suing businessman Hsieh Ping-sung and a company, Cross Global.

Media reports in 2009 reported that Mugabe splashed out HK$40m in June 2008 for the three-storey home at JC Castle, an upmarket development along Shan Tong Road developed by Albert Yeung Sau-shing's Emperor Group and named after action star Jackie Chan.

It was reported that Ping-sung used a company to buy the property, but sources in Zimbabwe said the Mugabes held a controlling interest in the house.
