Mugabe motorcade crash kills 1, 15 hurt

2012-06-19 18:21

Harare - One person has been killed and 15 injured by President Robert Mugabe's motorcade, in the third such accident in two weeks in Zimbabwe, police said on Tuesday.

National police spokesperson Wayne Bvudzijena blamed the accident on a commuter bus that did not make way fast enough for the passing motorcade. One of the cars leading the motorcade then rammed into the bus.

"The driver of a commuter minibus failed to heed the siren and beacon of the escort vehicle resulting in a head-on collision between the minibus and the police vehicle," Bvudzijena said.

"One passenger in the commuter bus died on the spot while 15 passengers from both vehicles were injured in the accident."

The crash happened on the Robert Mugabe highway just outside the president's home town of Zvimba.

Police VIP protection spokesperson Martin Mbokochena blasted "some unruly elements in society who want to disturb".

This was the third incident and third death in two weeks involving Mugabe's motorcade.

Two weeks ago a motorbike in the presidential cavalcade hit and killed a mentally disabled man, while a member of the presidential guard died and seven others were injured when a truck in the motorcade overturned after one of its tyres burst.

Mugabe typically travels with an escort of around 10 vehicles, including the presidential limousine, a Mercedes Benz, motorcycles and army vehicles.

Bvudzijena urged motorists to "pull off the road when they hear a siren or see a red or blue beacon".

‘Mugabe is dead”. That’s a headline many long to see in their lifetime. President of Zimbabwe, currently in the process of driving his country into bankruptcy, anarchy and starvation. Bummer! He’s still at it! Wiki-News isn’t leaving anything to chance. It has a “prepared story”: “Robert Mugabe, dictator and president of Zimbabwe has died today at the age of AGE. The cause of death was announced as CAUSEOFDEATH.” The story, says wiki, “describes an event that is scheduled or expected, but has not yet occurred”. And so we wait...

It is an African disease. We are the cause of it. For 4 centuries we told these people they are no good, now it is going to take the continent 4 centuries to get used to money. Sit back and enjoy their journey.

  • vernon.samuel.7 - 2012-06-19 18:59

In a related story, Mugabe also screwed up his country's economy to the point of ruin, isolated his country from previous western allies, caused rising racial tensions between blacks and whites, set his military veterans out to kill rival MDC supporters, refuses to step down from power after 32 years at the helm and has successfully driven over 4 million of his fellow countrymen to neighbouring South Africa to try and eke out a living there. Killed just 1 person??? I don't think so!!!

  • harold.chisimba - 2012-06-19 19:02

Sad for the poor victims...! Bob the knob was the one that started the blue light brigade years ago! Those with small brains and low intellect need things like blue light brigades to boost their egotistical arrogant little selves. Pathetic really!

      Sherry Graham - 2012-06-19 20:10

couldnt agree more. What a low self image one must have to need to boost their ego so immensely. He is already the president... you cant get much higher and than that. How dare he claim to care for his people and treat them as peasants.

Where does Zimbabwe get the fuel to keep all these vehicles on the road? Do the suppliers sanction such behaviour and waste? Surely every trip Mogabe takes cannot be a dire emergency. No respect for the rules of the road or human life.

  • Tiaan Liebenberg - 2012-06-19 20:14

Bob and his men only using the strong-arm tactics learnt from their comrades in the anc. They (incl ours) are allowed to hurt and even kill those in their way, because they are the boss . . .

  • isabel.ashe.7 - 2012-06-19 20:18

Do the job rite. look for the Car where Bob is and do the job. Is there no MAD BLACK ZIM BOY THAT CAN DO THE JOB WITH 1BULLET IN THE MIDDLE OF THE EYES.

      Richard - 2012-06-21 20:51

Sorry ...we black boys love Pres. Mugabe and look forward to implementing his policies in Mzansi soon . I am afraid you will have to look for a mentally deranged white boy for that. But chin up, judging from the postings here you do not have to look very hard.

Not even Jesus demanded such, and he thinks he can? Does he own the roads? Does he own the world? Enough is enough now, that mini devil must get off his high horse and take a bow. Sies.
