Stop Zim from falling off the cliff, Mugabe, 91, told

Cape Town – Zimbabweans living in Britain are reportedly set to stage a demonstration in London, demanding President Robert Mugabe and his Zanu-PF party government to step down.

According to the Daily News, the protest which coincides with Mugabe’s 91st birthday, will be held under the theme: "Stop Zimbabwe from falling off the cliff".

Opposition parties and human rights groups are expected to converge outside the Zimbabwean embassy in London to call on Mugabe to end the country’s political and economic crisis.

About two million people are said to be living in abject poverty in the country, the report said.

Many are calling for Mugabe to retire in "dignity and respect".

Mugabe was born on 21 February and his birthday celebrations are set to take place on 28 February in the resort town of Victoria Falls.

Mugabe's Zanu-PF party says it is planning to raise no less than $1m for his birthday bash.

The country's state-owned newspaper, the Chronicle, reported earlier this week that wild animals, including elephants, were set to be slaughtered for Mugabe’s party, after a donation from a prominent farmer.

The farmer, Tendai Musasa, pledged to donate two elephants, two buffalos, two sables, five impalas and a lion worth a combined $120 000.

At least 20 000 people are expected to attend.

Mugabe's birthday last year saw 90 balloons being released into the air, where a huge cake was on display and 90 beasts were slaughtered for the festivities.
