Tsvangirai exposes Zanu-PF 'terror plans'

2012-10-08 11:40

Cape Town - Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai says his MDC party is aware of Zanu-PF plans to engage the army to spearhead its violent campaign ahead of the country’s elections scheduled for March next year, it was reported on Monday.

According to a Newsday online report, Tsvangirai said there were plans by President Robert Mugabe's party to roll out election terror units to intimidate "unarmed civilians". The militia, he said, were trained by senior military men.

Tsvangirai made the remarks while addressing party supporters after touring homes of victims of political violence in Zaka, Masvingo province.

He took a swipe at Mugabe, saying the 88-year-old veteran leader preached peace during the day while he was aware of people in his party that were letting political opponents' blood during the night.

"Mugabe stands with me and my bloodless hands saying we don’t want violence. That’s hypocrisy because he knows the people who are committing violence are Zanu-PF," said Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai said the next elections must be observed by SADC, the African Union and the United Nations to ensure security of the vote and the voter was guaranteed.

DEar Thabo Mbeki, can you please respond to this? Is this an African solution for an African problem? Was this your plan? Is this what the right to self determination means?

The blood of the people is on our governments hands as well. SA is supplying the weapons that will be used in Mugabe's reign of terror.

  • awb.anc - 2012-10-08 12:38

The existence of Zanu PF is a national act of terror. Wait till mass murderer Mugabe dies : all his African counterparts will hail this son of a bitch as a true african statesman, and that`s what most of them are : idiots .

      derek.bredenkamp.3 - 2012-10-08 13:04

You seem to forget that most Zimbabweans support Zanu PF, it's their choice, probably because Mugabe has given them back their land and mineral wealth, something that could be happening here soon.

      harald.voney - 2012-10-08 13:24

Why would anybody put his/her faith on a losing horse? #A former Union leader masquerading as a politician#i dont mean to insult but this guy's political etiquettes are a bitter pill to chew ,seriously# ..Its gonna be difficult or pretty impossible for the MDC Leader on a square ground to win the hearts of the educated and politically informed voters in Zim given conditions like sanctions, intimidation, use of uniformed forces to drive political goals and foreign interference across the political divide are at a level ground.SIMPLY BECAUSE..... The MDC lacks a common vision,an identity, what they are there for,and what they stand for, only to drive Mugabe and Zanu Pf out of Power!,for whose benefit? Removing mugabe does not gonna bring food on peoples tables,Zimbabweans need to work and stop placing wasted hopes on politicians ..People need results, they don't eat hope..no body is perfect but atleast mugabe has given land and shares in companies to the indigenious people.

      bornwell.dennison - 2012-10-09 12:16

My friend you must be very dumb or a ZANU PF Agent what has your party with vision and a winning Political leader done in thirty-plus years? Do you call ruining the economy, maiming, killing and displacing millions of citizens visionery then we are in deeper trouble than I thought-its just sad. I cry for Zimbabweans scattered in foreign lands and those trapped in Zimbabwe and pray that God hears their groans, moans and cries for help

Mr Bornwell, with all due respect ,dont be emotional, your personal assessment of me is far fetched and your argument can also reflect your mental agility,if you have got nothing to say ,please talk to the hand!!! For that matter,i am neither an MDC apologist or a Zanu pf protege ,i am just a civilian exercising and expressing his rightiful thoughts of current situation facing our day to day lifes. Dont silence me,or force me to put your words in my mouth that reflects your thinking pathway,if you are smart enough just convience me with facts rather than attaching my well beign in public, what your are displaying here is an ostrich mentality of burrying its head in the ground, assuming that because it cannot see, it cannot be seen#fool#

SADC, AU and UN are all too weak to ensure the free and fair elections in Zimbabwe. They're all toothless, they dont bite.
