Zimbabwe needs a clear winner - Gono

2013-07-31 11:14

Cape Town – Zimbabwe's fledging economy needs a decisive winner in Wednesday’s general elections, Reserve Bank governor Gideon Gono says, according to a newzimbabwe.com report.

"The economy desperately needs a clear winner and a peaceful ending to the electoral processes for it to stabilise and prosper," Gono said in a statement.

Zimbabweans are casting their votes bringing to an end a shaky coalition government formed in 2009 between President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

The winning presidential candidate should get at least 50% plus one vote.

Gono says a decisive win for one of the parties will give the country a clear policy direction for the next five years.
