Zimbabwe's opposition is talking up an anti-Robert Mugabe coalition for the 2018 elections but differences over strategies and implementation are threatening the establishment of such an electoral alliance.

Harare - This is the moment a Zimbabwean man brutally attacked a woman who owed him $6 - and it's got activists furious.

In a clip posted to social media, the heavily-set man kicks and slaps the woman, who's wearing a yellow top, until she falls to the ground.

Then he jumps on her and, even after bystanders try to stop him, chases her and knocks her over.

The attack is now known to have happened on October 22 in the Harare suburb of Budiriro.

The man, Kumbirai Musariri, has since been slapped with just a $50 fine, reports a Harare tabloid H-Metro.

H-Metro says Musariri attacked the 47-year-old woman apparently because he had not received a $6 dividend from the savings club both are part of.

Activist Linda Musarira, who went with a group of women to try to confront the attacker on Tuesday tweeted: "Zim's judiciary system is directly supporting violence against women by giving perpetrators motivational sentences and solidarity fines."

But the man was not at home when the activists visited, online reports say.
