1Time plane suffered engine failure

A 1Time aircraft that made an emergency landing at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport had engine failure, the SA Civil Aviation Authority has said.

“Preliminary investigations show that its left engine failed,” spokesperson Phindiwe Gwebu said.

The plane, which had been going to Cape Town, was forced to turn back minutes after take off.

The runway at the airport was closed from 5pm yesterday for the emergency landing.

Gwebu said debris fell out of the left engine.

Investigations were continuing.
