#Trending rounds up the best and worst in pop culture this year

Fashion designer of the year: David Tlale

Fashion designer David Tlale

Our fashion designers had a fantastic year with David Tlale showing his Feminine Allure at New York Fashion Week.

He was named Fashion Designer of the Year in Africa and the Diaspora by Applause magazine and African Icon of Hope during Nigerian Fashion and Design Week.

We must mention Marianne Fassler’s return, the global rise of MaXhosa by Laduma and killer outsized jewellery from Pichulik.

Rocking the streetwear was Babatunde, 2Bop and Yoh. House of Diva was our favourite plus-size find.

Best dressed: Bonang Matheba

Bonang Matheba

Most consistent on the red carpet has been self-proclaimed “queen of everything”, media star Bonang Matheba.

Gert-Johan Coetzee continues to design much of Bonang’s couture and she manages an effortless day look in Woolworths suits and dresses.

Although we have seen a little less of her this year, Khanyi Mbau has also moved effortlessly from high fashion to the fabulous orange suit she wore at the Channel O music awards.
