3-way duel of the sedans: Sign of great family experiences

2011-09-09 14:26

Suzuki has won the hearts of locals with their compact cars and now the Japanese have upsized to a bulkier family car.

Kizashi means “sign of great things” and is Suzuki’s first luxury sedan and flagship model. Since it’s the biggest in the range, it allows customers to upgrade to a sporty family-sized sedan.

What’s new:
Launched with a 2.4-litre petrol engine, there are two models: manual and automatic with a CVT gearbox.

Much has been done to reduce noise, vibration and harshness?with the use of insulating materials and seals in the doors and panels, and even sound-absorbing carpets.

The standard six-speed manual gearbox ensures smooth driving to highlight the sportiness of the car. The continuously variable transmission is available in the auto model.

Inside, one finds a three-spoke leather steering wheel with audio controls, cruise control and paddle shifts.

The front seats are electronically controlled and the driver’s seat has a 10-way adjustment and a three-position memory.

There are many storage compartments for smaller items such as the illuminated glove box, a double-layer compartment under the centre-console armrest, a sunglass holder and an instrument-panel centre box that is great for your iPod.

The rear seats have a 60:40 split which gives access to the 461-litre boot.

Other standard goodies are auto-activating headlights and windscreen wipers, full leather seats, self-levelling high-intensity discharge headlights, and front and rear parking assistance.

Kizashi stands its ground with a wide stance and a curved bonnet line with complementing headlights, and the rest of the car flows into tight shoulder lines, giving it a muscular look.

The rear end is different to most sedans and boasts an integrated boot-lid spoiler as well as twin exhaust tailpipes.

The design of the tail-light clusters also match the headlights.

Safety items include ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability control with traction control and six airbags.

We like:
»?It comes loaded with standard features, including a sunroof;
»?A nifty sound system with a sub-woofer and seven speakers; and
»?The standard low profile, 18-inch rims and tyres.

We don’t like:
»?The way the design of the boot makes it look smaller than it actually is.
