Four people accused of breaking into the home of National Freedom Party leader Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi have appeared briefly in the Durban Magistrates’ Court.

Anitha Vasco (23) Lindani Mhlongo (34) Felix Khawuleza, (41) and Sifiso Dube (34) face charges of housebreaking with intent to rob and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The case was today postponed to August 12 for a formal bail application and to allow Khawuleza the opportunity to obtain legal representation.

According to court documents, they are accused of stealing R500 000 and a mobile phone.

The four were arrested on Thursday.

Two men armed with knives allegedly broke into KaMagwaza-Msibi’s Umhlanga home on Wednesday and accosted her daughter, Gugu Gumede (22), who was not hurt during the incident.

KaMagwaza-Msibi was not at home at the time.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane said the suspects had entered through an open window.

“They ransacked the house, demanding [to know where] the safe [was] and the code [to the safe],” he said.
