An elderly woman was raped and robbed at her home in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.

At 1am today the woman (72) was woken by the sound of movement in her bedroom. She got up and saw a man in her bedroom and three others in the passage, Captain Stanley Jarvis said.

“The men forced her into the lounge and started searching the property for valuable goods. She was taken into the bathroom by one of the men, who raped her.

“They fled on foot with a computer central processing unit valued at R2 500.”

Jarvis said no weapons were used. The woman was receiving counselling.

Meanwhile, three men gained entrance to property of a Zimbabwean student at about 2.20am in Summer Strand.

“Armed with two knives, they took a laptop and other valuables valued at R7 500. The men fled on foot and a case of robbery was opened,” said Jarvis.

In Gelvandale, seven men, each armed with a knife, entered a business and confronted and assaulted the owner and his brother.

“They took money to the value of R2 500 and goods to the value of R10 000 before fleeing on foot. A case of robbery and assault has been opened.”
All three incidents were being investigated.
