Since Aamito Stacie Lagum won the inaugural Africa’s Next Top Model TV show in January, she has hit the ramp running.

She has modelled for Michael Kors in New York and, while strutting for Prada, had a wardrobe malfunction when the outfit clipped on to her fell off?...?all in a day’s work for a hard-working model.

Lagum (21) has stepped up from being a freelance model in Kampala, Uganda, and an assistant in her mother’s shop.

Africa’s hottest new face now shuttles between New York and Cape Town as her career grows with the editorials she has graced.

In May, Lagum featured in Pulchritudinous, an editorial for A Fashion Friend magazine. In her latest outing, she stars in Jeune Afrique for Gaschette Magazine photographed by Steve Marais and styled by Jess Lupton in layered and pattern-heavy futuristic looks.

But it has not always been bright lights for Lagum. As a young girl growing up in Uganda, she spent nights hiding from the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels in Kitgum and saw her aunt being abducted.

She was also teased for being tall and skinny.

After the Africa’s Next Top Model scouts skipped Uganda, she travelled 16 hours to Nairobi, Kenya, where she impressed the judges and was short-listed to fly to Cape Town as part of the last 12.

She is now sitting pretty with a one-year modelling contract with DNA Model Management in New York and is R530?000 richer.
