The deputy president of the ANC Women’s League, Nosipho Dorothy Ntwanambi died yesterday, the party has said.

She had been unwell for some time.

Ntwanambi, who was also an ANC executive committee member, had served as a party member for more than 30 years, said president of the ANC Women’s League, Angie Motshekga.

“With comrade Ntwanambi’s passing, the ANC Women’s League and the broader congress movement has lost an organiser, a dedicated servant of our people, a community builder, a gender activist and an ardent advocate for equality in line with our movement’s vision of a nonracial, nonsexist, democratic and united nation,” Motshekga said.

Ntwanambi was a founding member of the United Women’s Organisation as well as the Democratic Teachers Union, which later became known as the SA Democratic Teachers Union.

She joined the National Council of Provinces in 1999 and served as chairperson of the select committee on economic and foreign affairs in 2004.

Motshekga said Ntwanambi would be remembered for her “unrelenting commitment to fight against gender-based violence”.

The league extended its condolences to her friends and family.
