ANC candidate still in hospital

2011-05-07 09:02

An ANC Midvaal ward candidate who was attacked during a door-to-door campaign is still in hospital, the party said today.

“She is recovering well and will lay a formal assault charge when she is discharged,” said ANC Gauteng spokesperson Dumisa Ntuli.

He suspected that Loveliness Mazibuko would be discharged on Saturday afternoon.

Mazibuko claimed three men attacked her while she was walking home wearing an ANC T-shirt in Daleside on Thursday.

She claimed that during the attack, the men said: “ANC se kak, jou k****r” (roughly translated as “Bugger the ANC, you k****r).

Mazibuko’s upper shoulder and neck were injured. She was taken to the Heidelberg Hospital last night.

Ntuli said the matter would also be taken up with the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

“We will be taking up this matter with the IEC as there should not be a repetition of this.”

The Midvaal municipality is run by the DA and is the only municipality which is not under the control of the ruling party in Gauteng.
