ANCYL: Masoga backs down

2010-07-13 10:05

A case involving the ANC Youth League’s (ANCYL) national leaders and ousted members of its Limpopo branch is to be struck off the court roll, former provincial league chairperson Lehlogonolo Masoga said today.

Speaking at the Johannesburg High Court, Masoga said: “The ANC has requested us to give it time to intervene. We have come to an agreement with the Youth League to strike the case off the court roll.”

Masoga was waiting for the league’s attorney to arrive to finalise the matter.

The court action followed a leadership conference in Makhado earlier this year where Masoga was ousted as chairperson and replaced by Frans Moswone, who is aligned to ANCYL president Julius Malema.

The former chairperson said he hoped the ANC would “do the right thing” and reconvene a conference in the province.

He approached the mother body to intervene after internal league processes had failed. Masoga also approached the court to have disciplinary proceedings against him set aside.

Outside the court, a number of Youth League members gathered, sang in support of Malema and held placards reading “hands off our leadership”.
