ANCYL congratulates new Safa chief

2010-01-07 13:39

THE ANC Youth League on Thursday congratulated advocate Leslie

Sedibe for his appointment as the chief executive of the South African Football

Association (Safa), calling him a suitable and capable incumbent for the

job.

“The ANCYL also congratulates the Safa leadership for showing the

necessary decisiveness in appointing an energetic, capable and suitably

qualified young person to be at the helm of South African football,”

spokesperson Floyd Shivambu said.

Sedibe would significantly contribute to South Africa’s hosting a

“successful and jovial” World Cup.

Sedibe was named new Safa chief on Thursday morning after Raymond

Hack resigned – just five months before the start of the World Cup and six

months before his contract was set to expire.

The daily publication, Sowetan, reported that Sedibe would be

acting chief executive, with Danny Jordaan, head of the 2010 local organising

committee (LOC), set to return early next year to the post he held between 1997

and 2001.

“Safa’s appointment of Leslie Sedibe will go a long way in giving

confidence and inspiration to many other young South Africans...”

Sedibe was previously head of legal affairs for the 2010 LOC.
