Accused talks of praying about ‘God’s voice’ in Lotter trial

2011-11-11 07:06

When her former lover first approached her with the idea of killing her parents, she asked if she could first pray about it.
This was Nicolette Lotter’s (29) testimony in the Durban High Court yesterday – her second day on the stand.

Lotter and her former lover, Mathew Naidoo (25) – whom she believed to be the third son of God – are accused alongside Nicolette’s younger brother, Hardus (23), who was also present when the revelations were spoken by God’s voice through Naidoo’s mouth, she said.

Nicolette said talks of killing her parents first surfaced around June 2008. This was after Naidoo received revelations from God that Johnnie Lotter (53) was a satanist and didn’t love his children and he (Johnnie) was standing against the work of God.

Riekie Lotter (52) initially would not be killed but driven “insane for the rest of her life”. Nicolette believed this was because her dad never accepted Naidoo, while her mother, who initially was open-minded about their relationship, started questioning who Naidoo was and where he worked.

“My dad was against him and therefore he was against God and the work of God. He said God instructed him that my father had to be killed,” said Nicolette. While she said she “wasn’t for it”, Naidoo kept on “saying it” and would even shout at her about it.

First, God told Naidoo that he wanted her father to die from alcohol poisoning. They were to purchase pure alcohol to pour into the whiskey. When their parents had gone to sleep, Naidoo would instruct her to pour the alcohol into a glass before instructing her to pour this into the whiskey or do it himself.

Nicolette said she and her brother heard the revelation of their parents’ killing at the same time though she could not remember if it was the first time it was revealed to her. She told the court that her father drank two glasses of whiskey a day.

But after two weeks and not getting the desired effect, Naidoo was angry about it not working. While she didn’t openly question why this had not worked if it came from God, she questioned it in her heart, she told the judge.

The next instruction from God had been to extract poison from a poisonous plant, which Nicolette claims the trio obtained from the Botanical Gardens.

They knew the plant was poisonous since it had been labelled as such. This, too, was to be put in her father’s whiskey. However, the plan also didn’t work after her father threw the whiskey out.

Nicolette testified how Naidoo had used her and her brother to pinch R6 000 from their parents’ banking account. She and Hardus were instructed, through the voice of God, to fish around their parents’ room for pin numbers. Naidoo covered his head with a balaclava to withdraw money from the ATMs that she remembered to be in Hillcrest and Pinetown.

She would always remain in the car and on two occasions her brother was with her. She said the angel of “plays or drama”, who manifested through Naidoo, had coached them on how to console their parents about their stolen money.

The case has been postponed to March next year. The trio remains in custody.
