Alberts out of Lions clash

2011-06-09 13:04

Willem Alberts has failed a late fitness test and is left out of the Sharks team to face the Lions in their crucial Super Rugby encounter in Joburg on Saturday.

The loose forward injured his shoulder during the closing stages of last week’s 23-18 win over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

His absence has forced coach John Plumtree into a rethink with Jacques Botes coming in at blindside and Keegan Daniel shifting to fill the number seven shirt worn by Alberts last week.

It is one of two changes to the side with the other being Tendai Mtawarira moving into the front row and Bismarck du Plessis dropping to the bench.

Captain John Smit will move to hooker for the Joburg clash.

Alberts’ unavailability against his former team had also opened up a spot on the bench which will be filled by Marcell Coetzee.

Frederic Michalak, the French international who signed for the Durban franchise last week and was an unused substitute in Bloemfontein, is among the replacements.

Sharks team: Louis Ludik, JP Pietersen, Stefan Terblanche, Meyer Bosman, Lwazi Mvovo, Patrick Lambie, Charl McLeod, Ryan Kankowski, Keegan Daniel, Jacques Botes, Gerhard Mostert, Steven Sykes, Eugene van Staden, John Smit (capt), Tendai Mtawarira. Replacements: Bismarck du Plessis, Wiehahn Herbst, Alistair Hargreaves, Marcell Coetzee, Frederic Michalak, Jacques-Louis Potgieter, Adrian Jacobs
