All eyes on Bolt

2012-08-07 11:04

All eyes were on Usain Bolt as he returned to the track for the men’s 200m heats at the Olympic Stadium today.

Bolt won his heat in a time of 20.39.

This is less than 48 hours after the Jamaican’s record-breaking performance on Sunday, when he snatched the 100m gold medal in a record 9.63 dash.

South Africa’s only sprint hopeful at the London Olympics, Anaso Jobodwana, will square up against former European triple champ Christophe Lemaitre of France.

Team SA, still chasing its first athletics medal in London, will be hoping for a first final berth when Andre Olivier lines up in the men’s 800m semifinal tonight (8.55pm SA time).

Olivier clocked an automatic qualifier during the heats yesterday.

He said afterwards: “The semis are going to be tough. The pace could be slower but then if it’s fast, I’ll wait for the last 100 (to press harder).”

Also yesterday, the women’s hockey side scored their first victory with a 7-0 win over USA.

The Proteas lost four pool games on the trot.
