All set for Shoes’ service

2015-04-24 11:06

The memorial service of Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs star, John “Shoes” Moshoeu, is set to start soon.

The service is scheduled to take place at noon at the Grace Bible Church in Soweto.

Moshoeu was part of the Bafana Bafana team that won the country’s only Africa Cup of Nations title in 1996. He was capped 73 times and scored eight times for South Africa.

Speaking at Moshoeu’s home in Bryanston, Johannesburg, yesterday, former Bafana captain Lucas Radebe said: “Some of the memories I have are seeing the fans coming with a big shoe and when he touched the ball you knew they would say ‘Shoeeeees!’

“That’s what Shoes brought to the game – a colourful character, very skilful...”

Moshoeu (49) died on Tuesday. Funeral arrangements would still be announced.
