Alleged killer nabbed after trying to steal a goat

2011-11-07 10:46

The alleged killer of a local businessman was nabbed after a foiled attempt to steal a goat.

According to KwaZulu-Natal police’s Lieutenant Colonel Vincent Mdunge, Paulpietersburg police were conducting an operation looking for wanted suspects in the murder case when they noticed a VW Polo with two occupants driving “suspiciously”.

“The members tried to stop the said vehicle but it sped off. The police gave chase and the occupants allegedly shot at the police and the officers fired back in self-defence.

“The suspect’s vehicle stopped and one suspect was arrested while the other fled on foot,” said Mdunge.

When the police searched the vehicle, they found a goat, suspected to have been stolen, in the boot.

“The arrested suspect was linked to two reported cases of murder where a local businessman, Bongani Thwala, and Nokuthula Khanyile were shot dead during a robbery on October 24,” Mdunge said.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the officers for their sterling work and determination in arresting the suspect even when they came under fire.
