Amakhosi eyeing revenge

2012-08-22 14:23

Revenge, more than anything, will be on Kaizer Chiefs players’ minds when they host Mamelodi Sundowns tonight.

After suffering a humiliating 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Downs in the MTN8 semifinal a fortnight ago, Chiefs get the opportunity to avenge that defeat at FNB Stadium. Kickoff is at 7.30pm.

But Chiefs have been dealt a huge blow with news that defender Morgan Gould has suffered an injury at training this week. He is likely to be replaced by Tefo Mashamaite at centre back.

Chiefs goalkeeper and captain Itumeleng Khune has made it clear that they were gunning for revenge and has promised his team would prevail.

Khune said Downs caught them napping but vowed they would not repeat the same mistakes tonight.

After the Downs defeat Chiefs did bounce back and redeemed themselves by thrashing AmaZulu 6-0, with Bernard Parker scoring four of those goals.
Parker would be looking to continue where he left off.

But Downs have also vowed not to lose their momentum and would want to prove their win was no fluke.

Although they have a more demanding game against Moroka Swallows on Sunday in the second leg of the MTN8, they have promised not to take their eyes off the ball.

Coach Johan Neeskens has made it clear he would quit the club if he finished the season without silverware.

Another intriguing clash tonight is at Polokwane’s Peter Mokaba Stadium when SuperSport United host defending champions Orlando Pirates.

The two teams met on Sunday and played to a goalless draw, but they have promised goals tonight.

They will meet again on Saturday night in the second leg of the MTN8 semifinal at Orlando Stadium.

Other fixtures: Moroka Swallows vs Ajax Cape Town (Dobsonville Stadium, 7.30pm); Bloemfontein Celtic vs Platinum Stars (Free State Stadium, 7.30pm); Bidvest Wits vs Black Leopards (Bidvest Stadium, 7.30pm); Golden Arrows vs University of Pretoria (Cedric Sugar Ray Stadium, 6pm)
