Ever run into your ex and their new flame while buying junk food in your sweat pants? Or bumped into that annoying colleague in the canteen – the one you’ve been avoiding since you drunkenly kissed them at the Christmas party?

People you need to avoid? There are apps for that now.

Both Cloak and Split use data from social networks to locate the people from your friends list. Cloak checks their logins on Foursquare and Instagram. Split also accesses Twitter and Facebook

data. If you believe the

inventors, there will be no more going to that coffee shop not knowing your annoying former flatmate is there (taking a photo of her latte and geotagging it on Instagram).

Split allows you to mark her as an “avoidee”, gives you a real-time alarm as she approaches and calculates an escape route.

If you are just having an antisocial day, use Cloak to define a minimum distance you want to keep from friends. The downside: the avoidees must use social networks frequently and give away their location data.

.?Split can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play for free. Cloak is for iPhone only.
