2010-05-13 08:38

At least 10 South Africans died in the plane crash that killed 103

people near the Libyan capital Tripoli, Talk Radio 702 reported today.

The private radio station said Libyan officials were still trying

to identify 18 people from the Libyan airliner’s passenger list whose

nationalities were unknown.

Authorities have not yet released the death toll of South African

victims from yesterday’s crash.

Bree O’Mara, author of the award-winning novel, Home Affairs, was

among the South Africans killed when the Afriqiyah Airways plane disintegrated

just shy of the runway, the Star newspaper reported on yesterday.

She was reportedly on her way to London to sign a second book

deal.

The brother of Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Anchen Dreyer also died

in the crash, the DA said in a statement.

The Airbus A330, which left from Johannesburg, had 104 people on

board when it crashed at about 6am yesterday. The only survivor was an

8-year-old Dutch boy.
