Ayew, Keita, Yaya Toure up for top African player award

2011-12-21 11:05

Andre Ayew, Seydou Keita and Yaya Toure have been named finalists for the African football player of the year award.

Ghana’s Ayew, Mali’s Keita and Ivory Coast’s Toure will vie for the continent’s top player prize at a ceremony in Accra, Ghana tomorrow.

The Confederation of African Football had named a shortlist of five nominees, but Cameroon captain and Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o and Lille’s Senegalese international Moussa Souw did not make today’s final list.

Favorite Ayew, who has just turned 22, is the son of former Ghana great Abedi Pele and picked up the BBC’s African Footballer of the Year award last week, 20 years after his father won it while also playing for Marseille.
