One of the nation’s most-loved voices, Azania Mosaka, has joined Talk Radio 702 and CapeTalk after leaving the embattled Power FM late last year.

Mosaka and her co-host Africa Melane kick off their new beat on Saturday with Weekend Breakfast with Azania and Africa.

Talking to City Press, Mosaka said she was “ecstatic” to be joining a station she considers to be in “the big league” and that it marks her “maturing” after a decade in broadcasting.

“I grew up listening to 702; my mother was a listener. It was all those old voices that made me fall in love with and appreciate talk radio.”

Mosaka would not be drawn on the numerous resignations and failing listenership at Power FM.

“I needed to grow, to refine my talk and broadcasting ability, that’s why I moved from Metro to Power. Power taught me a lot and helped me cut my teeth in talk radio.”

When she left Power FM, Mosaka said she would be focusing on her business interests, particularly in the nail and beauty industry. She told City Press she would still be pursuing her business dreams – more so than ever.

“702 is a win-win situation. I will be able to broadcast on weekends and focus on my business during the week.”

She was upbeat about the new show, saying “it will be lifestyle, but urban. Sure there’ll be all the DIY and fashion trends and stuff, but we’re going to be doing it in a new way. It’s going to be fresh, funny and fun.”

She and Melane will host the first edition of Weekend Breakfast together in Joburg on Saturday. After that, he will join her from Cape Town.

The show airs on Saturdays and Sundays from 6am to 10am.
