Baby Boks to play Italy in U20 Champs opener

2014-11-26 16:59

The Junior Springboks will kick off their 2015 Under-20 World Championship campaign against tournament hosts Italy, the SA Rugby Union (Saru) announced today.

The Junior Boks were the top seeded team in Pool B and will come up against Australia, Samoa and Italy from June 2 to 20.

“The format of the competition demands that you will have to be on your very best in each match. Italy will play with a lot of passion and commitment in front of their home fans, so that will be a tough opener for us,” Junior Springbok coach Dawie Theron said.

“Samoa showed in their match against us in New Zealand that they are a very difficult team to beat, while Australia are a well-organised side and will no doubt have several players with Super Rugby experience in their squad.”

Pool A consists of England – who return to defend their title – France, Wales and Japan while New Zealand, Ireland, Argentina and Scotland were grouped in Pool C.

In other opening-day matches, England will play Japan, who return to the U20 competition for the first time since 2009, and four-time winners New Zealand take on Scotland.
