Baby girl dumped on street in Soweto

2014-08-12 19:45

A two-week-old baby has been found dumped outside a house in Dlamini, Soweto.

“A woman passing by noticed the baby wrapped in a cloth and placed at a gate outside the house. The baby girl was alive. There was no one in the house, so she took the baby to the police,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela today.

A case of child neglect was being investigated. No arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, the decomposing body of a child was discovered in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.

“A passerby noticed hair protruding from a rock near an informal settlement in Lenasia. He discovered that it was a human body and called the police,” said Makhubela.

The child’s body was in a bad state of decomposition, and it was not yet known whether it was a boy or a girl, he said.

A murder docket has been opened and no arrests have been made.
