Baby snatched at Pretoria mall

2010-05-19 10:05

Gauteng police have appealed to the public for help in finding a

three-month-old baby who was kidnapped in Pretoria.

Baby Mbalentle Ngobeni was stolen from her mother, Smangele Fila

Ngobeni, yesterday afternoon by a woman who offered to help the mother find a

job, said Captain Tessa Jansen.

“(Smangele Fila Ngobeni) went to the Bloed Street Mall because she

had been approached by an unknown lady in the mall offering her a job,” Jansen

said.

“When she went to the mall, she was told that she wasn’t dressed

appropriately for the job.”

The woman then took Ngobeni to a clothing store, where they picked

out a dress. The mother gave the baby to the woman while she went into the

fitting room.

“When she came out of the fitting room, the baby was gone and the

lady was nowhere to be found,” said Jansen.

The woman was described as a middle-aged, black female with a

medium build and large hips.

She had black blemishes on her face, an L-shaped

gold-plated slip on her front tooth and a scar on her right arm.

She was wearing

dark jeans, a blue short-sleeved shirt, and a black and white pullover. She had

a ring with a blue stone.

Jansen said the woman communicated poorly in Zulu.

The baby had both sides of her head shaven during a recent visit to

the hospital. She had a birthmark on her back and a black spot on an

eyelid.

Jansen appealed to members of the public to come forward if they

had information about Baby Mbalentle.

They should contact investigating officers Mike Mokgakane on

082?778?7893 or TJ Sekgala on 079?880?0908.
