Bafana move four places up

2012-05-09 11:33

Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane got a timely boost when his team eased its downward slide in the latest Fifa ranking released today ahead of the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers next month.

Bafana have moved up four places from last month’s 71st position and also rose one step up from 15 to 14 in the CAF ranking.

Bafana’s next month foes Ethiopia are the lowest ranked in 138 in the world and 41 on the continent.

In fact, all Bafana’s Group A opponents find themselves below the South Africans with Botswana the closest at position 27 while the Central African Republic occupy the 37th spot and 123 in the world.

Bafana take on Ethiopia in Rustenburg on June 2 before crossing to Botswana to face the Zebras also next month.

World Champions Spain are still perched at the summit of the world rankings, followed by Germany. The highest-ranked African team on the list is Ivory Coast at number 15.
