Bafana ready for all-out attack on Zebras

2013-09-06 14:22

Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund is expected to go for an all-out attack against Botswana tomorrow afternoon.

Bafana take on the Zebras at Moses Mabhida in Durban in a must-win game for them to qualify for the final round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.

Igesund will pin his hopes on his twin strikers Tokelo Rantie and Bernard Parker to lead the attack.

The coach is likely to sacrifice one of the holding midfielders so as to have an offensive team.

He has admitted to a selection headache as one of the three defensive midfielders – Kagisho Dikgacoi, Dean Furman and Reneilwe Letsholonyane – will have to sit this one out.

Though still in with a chance, Bafana need to win their game against Botswana and hope for Ethiopia to drop points against bottom-of-the-group Central African Republic (CAR).

Igesund’s other focus will be in Congo-Brazzaville, where the CAR host group leaders Ethiopia. This game will be played at a neutral venue owing to the continued security issues in Bangui.

Ethiopia would have been through already, but they had to forfeit their victory over Botswana for fielding an ineligible player.

Botswana also have an outside chance of going through if they beat South Africa and Ethiopia lose to the CAR.

The winner of the group will progress to the final round of play-offs where all 10 group winners will contest the final two-legged play-offs to decide the five nations to represent Africa in Brazil next year.
