Bafana vs Santana – it’s war

2010-03-19 16:31

BAFANA Bafana captain Teko Modise has described tomorrow’s clash

against coach Joel Santana’s Botafogo as war.

The match, at Engenhao Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, kicks off at 9pm

South African time.

Modise said they would not want their former coach to spoil a good

week they had in Brazil after winning three of their five training

matches.

Bafana have been on a roll since they arrived almost a fortnight

ago but Santana is out to prove a point to the South African Football

Association after he was dismissed as Bafana coach in October. But Modise said

his team was ready to continue with their good form and would not let Santana

spoil the party.

“It will be war and this is the game most of us have been waiting

for. It would be good to see him again and I am looking forward to the game,” he

said.

Santana has not said any word about meeting his former side but his

club has been doing well in the Brazilian league as they are joint leaders with

Vasco da Gama. On Wednesday they beat Santa Cruz 1-0 in the Brazil Cup and

Santana would be hoping to continue with the good form against Bafana.

After playing to a hard-fought goalless draw against Cruzeiro on

Wednesday night, Bafana reserves redeemed themselves when they beat Cruzeiro’s

reserves 2-0 yesterday morning with goals from Richard Henyekane and Daylon

Claasen.
