Bafana will cough up for Senegal match

2012-02-28 09:04

The Senegal football federation (FSF) will make about R1.3 million from its side’s international friendly against South Africa scheduled for tomorrow, February 29 in Durban.

Besides the financial gains, the team’s transport, accommodation and feeding will be shouldered by the South African Football Association (SAFA), which has arranged a special South African Airways flight to airlift part of the group from Dakar to Durban, a source at the body said yesterday.

The players flying from Paris, France will come aboard another plane chartered by SAFA, the source said.

Senegal officials say they intend to use the meeting to blot out memories of the Teranga Lions’ disastrous campaign at the just-concluded Africa Cup of Nations, although local critics are questioning the importance of such a hurried move, instead of taking time to reconstruct the outfit.

Currently managed by two assistant coaches Karim Séga Diouf and Aliou Cissé, Senegal will not be parading most of its 2012 AFCON squad, instead, the roster is dominated by players from the Under-23 Olympic team.
