Bank launches Football Friday

2010-02-26 12:42

Absa officially launched its Football Friday campaign to encourage

people to rally behind Bafana Bafana for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, a spokesperson

for the bank said.

The campaign was designed to get all South Africans to wear a

Bafana Bafana T-shirt every Friday as the tournament draws nearer.

The bank had purchased 39 532 soccer jerseys that would be

distributed to its staff as from next week, Gaynor Kast said.

Company executive director, Happy Ntshingila, said: “It’s a

tremendous honour for us to forge full steam ahead in support of our national

team.”

South Africans were also encouraged to fly the national flag and

learn to sing the national anthem.

Those attending the launch included Tourism Minister Marthinus van

Schalkwyk, national coach Carlos Parreira and several Bafana Bafana players as

well as some of the Sevens Rugby players, Kast said.

Tuesday will mark the 100-day countdown to the Fifa World

Cup.
