Banyana stick to tried and tested combination

2012-10-09 12:23

Banyana Banyana coach Joseph Mkhonza has stuck with his tried and tested combination ahead of the 8th CAF African Women’s Championship later this month.

The team, which was announced today in Johannesburg, included only two new call-ups – Durban Ladies striker Silindile Ngubane and High Performance Centre (Tshwane) goalkeeper Katlego Moletsane.

Mkhonza said this was the best team available and was looking forward to his players pairing up against some of Africa’s best.

Ngubane, who scored 11 goals for Durban Ladies at the Sasol League National Championships in July, has been outstanding this year.

Under-17 goalkeeper Moletsane is a back-up for regular number one Thoko Mndaweni and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies goalkeeper Andile Dlamini.

“Ngubane has been performing well for her club. She was a top goal-scorer for her Durban team; she has never disappointed in the camp. I think she is ready for the challenge,” said Mkhonza.

The Women’s Championship will take place in Equatorial Guinea from October 28 to November 11.

Banyana Banyana have been drawn in Group A and will face hosts Equatorial Guinea in Malabo on October 28, Senegal on October 31, and DR Congo on November 3.
