Battleground Gauteng

2014-04-08 10:00

The ANC is the only party with the capacity and ability to govern Gauteng effectively.

This province is the socioeconomic engine of South Africa and the continent. Our growth and prosperity mainly depends on a well-governed and innovative Gauteng so the province requires a government that is knowledgeable, innovative and experienced.

Rather than a wish list and dreams of what the we can do, the ANC has real programmes, resources, structures and systems to govern Gauteng effectively and deliver to its people.

The black middle class is growing rapidly in South Africa, most notably in Gauteng. Under ANC governance, it has risen from a modest 350?000 in 1993 to a massive 4.2?million last year, with 46% of the black middle class in Gauteng.

Since 2004, its disposable household income has increased by 35%. It is due to the ANC’s delivery record that Gauteng continues to attract fellow South Africans from other provinces.

Our attitude on internal migration is not a negative one of branding South Africans as refugees within their own borders.

We have accepted our leading role and attendant responsibilities that come with it because we know this province is where many people have hopes of realising their aspirations.

We have made this a reality in the past 20 years.

Given this additional pressure, the ANC has invested in infrastructure development and maintenance that includes the construction of additional schools, clinics and roads, among other things.

In this regard, the ANC has developed concrete government plans and allocated resources, and is delivering on this.

The Gauteng ANC government continually engages relevant stakeholders in the private sector and communities to ensure the effective and timeous delivery of our programmes.

The focus on infrastructure development rests on three pillars:

.?Developing an infrastructure to develop and sustain Gauteng, as well as the national economy;

.?Locating the historically disadvantaged such as black businesses, women, youth and people with disabilities at the centre of economic productivity; and

.?Centralising job creation in all these pillars.

This province cannot be treated as a “learning curve”.

Gauteng gives South Africa a competitive edge internationally and provides the base for foreign direct investment here and across the continent.

In this regard, the ANC galvanises critical sectors of Gauteng?– professionals, academics, and established and emerging businesses?–?to work with the ANC government to enhance Gauteng’s international competitiveness.

The ANC in Gauteng has proved that it takes decisive action against corruption.

This is something it will continue with while ensuring best practice and a spirit of serving our people.

Gauteng cannot be left to chancers.

It is not a province to incubate a political party.

This is what the DA has been in the Western Cape?–?an incubation to prove it can deliver to the people.

It has failed drastically, especially the poor majority, and when this failure became too obvious, it sought to get a black presidential candidate?– and failed.

The less said about the chancers in red berets, the better.

The ANC has to, and will, win Gauteng.
