The Time of the Writer literary festival turns 18 this year. Hosted by the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Centre for Creative Arts, this annual event will bring together 20 writers from across the continent.

Though book launches and presentations form the core of the programme, the festival has evolved greatly to include other elements, such as writing workshops, panel discussions and musical performances.

Time of the Writer has consistently pulled big literary names, and this year is no exception.

The festival will play host to local heavyweights Mandla Langa and Thando Mgqolozana, as well as NoViolet Bulawayo from Zimbabwe and Ousmane Diarra from Mali, to name but a few.

The Centre for Creative Arts uses Time of the Writer to encourage new writing talent, with the inclusion of a Schools Writing Forum and a Schools Short Story Competition.
