If you’re looking for design inspiration, or just a little shopping, there isn’t much you won’t be able to find next week in Cape Town. The designer tribes of the African diaspora will migrate to the foot of Table Mountain to combine their continental powers and show the art world exactly what they’ve got. And let us warn you – it’s a lot.

The highly anticipated Design Indaba exhibition, called Africa is Now 2015, says quite boldly that “Africa is rejecting the descriptions that have historically defined it and is instead becoming the new benchmark for growth and innovation”. The show will premiere work by five different African multidisciplinary collectives: Darb 1718 from Egypt, Les Petites Pierres from Senegal, Beyond Entropy Africa and Colectivo Pes Descalco from Angola, as well as The Nest from Kenya. Included will be fascinating lectures from the likes of Senegalese photographer Omar Victor Diop, who will be speaking about his prolific recolonisation of Western imagery.
