Briton in court over fong kong Rugby Sevens tickets

2012-05-11 12:53

A British man has appeared before a Hong Kong court accused of selling fake tickets for the Rugby Sevens tournament in March.

Christopher McConville (24), who appeared in court today, is alleged to have been one of five men who sold 76 tickets at a cost of 100 000 Hong Kong dollars (R104 213.8).

McConville is on trial for obtaining property for deception and breaching the condition of his stay in Hong Kong by establishing or joining a business.

Eastern Magistrates’ Court heard he was one of group of five men who sold the tickets to an agent of Euroteam sports tickets agency one day ahead of the sell-out annual tournament.

The tickets were later found to be forged with tests showing several discrepancies such as different colouring and lack of micro-print.

McConville, described as a sports ticket dealer by his lawyer, denies the charges. The trial continues.
