The SABC may be throwing a lifeline to the broke former e.tv sports anchor Xolelwa Majeke.

The corporation is offering Majeke a plumb job as a sports anchor for one of their primetime programmes at Mhlobo Wenene radio station.

City Press learnt from a reliable source that the two parties are negotiating the terms and conditions of the contract and Majeke is expected to sign soon.

Apparently, Monwabisi Jimlongo’s name has been bandied about as the producer of Majeke’s show.

It should be a huge relief for Majeke if the deal goes through as she has fallen on hard times after leaving e.tv.

Eskom switched off the lights at her R1.5 million Fourways house in Jozi as she was R38 200 in arrears.

Her house was almost repossessed by the bank after she had defaulted on her monthly instalments.

Majeke was also forced to use lifts from friends after failing to repair her Audi A3, which was crashed by her friend, former Muvhango actor Themba Nofemele.

Majeke couldn’t be reached for comment at the time of going to print as her cellphone rang unanswered.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed that negotiations were under way between the SABC and Majeke over the job.

“She is among the people interviewed for the post but it is not Mhlobo Wenene’s initiative but that of SABC Radio Sports. They want to fill up vacancies for PSL sports programmes they are introducing on various radio stations. But they have not finalised anything with her,” he said.
