Buckling up for Mission Possible in Dubai

2012-02-20 12:20

“Welcome to United Arab Emirates. We will be landing shortly,” a female voice is heard over the intercom.

Her words woke me up after I had fallen asleep in between a movie in my Emirates business class cabin.

“Please fasten your seat belts,” it continued. I still couldn’t believe that I was headed for Dubai.

Quickly shaking the sleep off, I put my seat upright and buckled up; excited and nervous about my Arabian adventure.

Sophistication and class is the first thing that comes to mind when I take in the scenery of Dubai. The architecture here is superb.

We pull up at the Sofitel Jumeirah Beach Residence, a beachfront hotel in the heart of the city. It’s lined by restaurants and most are packed to capacity even though it’s the early hours of the morning.

It’s the middle of winter here but the heaviest thing you would wear is a three-quarter sweater for the cold breeze at night.

It’s clear, blue skies all the way.

At the hotel, my suite is situated on the 17th floor with a spectacular view of the ocean.
Even though there is much to explore, sleep is essential as I have back-to-back tours that go right through the nights.

Two hotels and restaurants, a dune dinner/safari, city tour, the tallest building and largest mall plus a cruise, all in two days.

Now I know why the Mission Impossible crew chose to film in Dubai.
