Bulls mean business this weekend

2013-06-26 16:38

The Bulls may have one foot in the Super Rugby play-offs but they have the added carrot of finishing first on the conference.

A win against the Southern Kings at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday afternoon will make their path even easier.

Kick-off is at 5.05pm.

The Bulls have the advantage of knowing what to do as they head into each game as their opponents play early games.

The Brumbies, who are first on the combined log with 59 points, are the most disadvantaged of the teams as they have only one league fixture remaining.

New Bulls captain Dewald Potgieter, who steps in for the injured Pierre Spies, said they did very well to get to the position they are in but their plan is to take it game by game.

“At this stage, we are not just fighting for a top-two spot. We are in a position where if we finish the competition strongly we could be in a very strong position at the end of the round-robin stages,” Potgieter said.

Having provided a large player contingent for the Boks, the Bulls have made eight changes from the team that played the Cheetahs in early June.

Forward changes see Grant Hattingh and Jacques Potgieter making returns with Juandre Kruger coming off the bench along with Jono Ross and Willie Wepener.

In the back division, Louis Fouche, Wynand Olivier, Zane Kirchner and Akona Ndungane make their return to the team.

It will be Olivier’s last start in a Bulls jersey before his move to France and Bulls coach Frans Ludeke acknowledged it would be a big loss.

However, he said the team’s performance cannot be clouded by sentiment as they have a big job at hand.

“The main thing for us is to ensure that we are successful this season and by being successful I mean this weekend,” Ludeke said.

“There are some players who are finishing off their careers but we need to play well against the Kings and there will be another great memory afterwards.”
