Can Agang stand the test of time? : Lady, what are you thinking?

2013-02-24 10:00

Some, if not many, will question struggle stalwart Dr Mamphela Ramphele’s new political party platform, Agang.

We have become accustomed to the critical and disgruntled simply starting up political parties.

The Congress of the People (Cope) was formed in this way and it’s no secret Agang was formed under a cloud of frustration and a sense of saving the country.

The enemy, the ANC and all its inefficiencies, is clear.

Any thinking citizen knows this.

But can any new party realise its promises when others have failed before?

The test with the new kid would be to show that its leadership is not typically power hungry.

We, as the voters, are again faced with a tough decision to make – not just a decision, but an intelligent one.

Some of the promises made by Ramphele’s platform are not alien to us – the ANC has made them many times with no action.

Will we jump on the wagon because Cope, our supposed first savour, failed us?

Couldn’t Ramphele have joined a more prominent and strong opposition party to continue opposition-consolidation efforts?

South Africa does not need another political party.

The DA has done fairly well to build a strong opposition, luring diverse voters to represent our rainbow nation.

Are we going to be disappointed again when the “new saviour” doesn’t live up to its promises and our expectations?

Five years is a long time to live with your wasted vote.
